A Candidate for Truth

Listening to the radio and watching tv, hearing the words 'fake news' for the umpteenth time, I was struck by how easily and frequently certain world leaders dismiss what they don't want to hear.
I found a copy of Ralph Waldo Emerson's book, 'A Candidate for Truth' (published in 1938) in a charity shop; it seemed an appropriate book to explore how certain words can seem to be associated with a particular person. I used paint to white-wash over the bulk of the text, leaving just a few words or phrases visible.
My particular favourites include 'the withdrawal of the soul', 'is not wise', and 'lumpish bigot'.
I have not named any names, but have included a couple of recent newspaper photographs as illustrations.
