When I began working on this book I was especially influenced by two events: the word 'withdrawn' (from 'stock') stamped on the front pages and the fact that each time I cut into a page I was left with the choice of whether to present the cut out or the reverse, which was equally interesting and would have created a quirky new narrative. Both of these things made me start to question what lay beneath the mere obvious shown on the page leading me to re-create the book as a collaged imaginary space where all one's inner worlds collide and only ever reveal misty glimpses of themselves. 'Withdrawn from stock' is about that which is discarded, forgotten, cluttered away in a distant memory drawer.
